The College of Arts and Sciences thrives when alumni, students, faculty, and friends work together to advance shared goals. Your experience, energy, and passion can make a direct impact—whether you’re mentoring students; hosting or participating in an event; or nominating an alum for one of our annual awards.

Below, we’ve organized our volunteer opportunities into easy-to-explore categories so that you can find the best fit for your interests, schedule, and location. Whether you have a few hours or a longer-term commitment in mind, getting involved with the College of Arts and Sciences can help IU for generations to come.

Mentor and advise

• Make Virtual Alumni–Student Career Connections: Support students’ career aspirations through the Walter Center Success Network. Participate in virtual panels or one-on-one chats about career advice, industry trends, and professional growth. Time commitment: 1–2 hours per month.
• Serve as a Career Services Partner: Help students and alumni navigate career paths with confidence through mock interviews, resume reviews, and internships. Virtual and in-person opportunities available. Time commitment: 2–3 hours per event.
• Serve as a College Luminary: Share real-world insights with students through our College Luminaries Program, which involves classroom discussions, workshops, and faculty meetings. Time commitment: typically one full day, in-person.

Recognize and connect

• Host an Alumni Event: Welcome guests, foster connections, and help create memorable gatherings either by hosting, securing a venue, or offering financial support. Time commitment: 3–6 hours per event.
• Serve as an Alumni Speaker: Present on topics like industry insights, lifelong learning, or leadership. Opportunities include College events, webinars, or student programs. Time commitment: 1–3 hours per session.
• Volunteer with Science Fest: Volunteer during the College of Arts and Sciences' annual fall Science Fest, either by hosting activities or surveying visitors. Shifts are typically 2–3 hours, with training provided.
